Why We Started
Feeling Stuck? You’re Not Alone. That’s Why We Started The Next Steps Institute.
It was just a few weeks ago that we launched the Next Steps Institute - and while we’re still at the beginning, we’ve already been struck by how many people feel exactly the way we once did: stuck, uncertain, and wondering what comes next.
NSI began because, after years in school leadership, whilst things looked fine on the outside - but inside, we were unravelling. We didn’t know where to turn. And the worst part? We thought we were alone.
We weren’t.
The more conversations we had, the more we saw the same pattern: people in education, in corporate roles, in mid-career transitions - working hard but quietly wondering if they were in the wrong place. Drifting. Restless. Hoping for change, but unsure how to begin.
That’s why we created the Next Steps Institute — not to offer easy answers, but to build a space where no one has to navigate the “what’s next?” alone.
Since launch, we’ve received messages from many people who resonate with this experience. Some are still teaching, some left years ago, and some never taught at all. But they’re all asking the same question: “Where do I go from here?”
What has the past few weeks looked like for the NSI?
We’ve been publishing blogs designed to help those who feel stuck navigate the next steps.
“The Graduate Scheme Dream” – what happens when the dream career doesn’t deliver?
“Kick Off Your Concrete Shoes” – for those who feel stuck, and how to take the next steps.
“From Ladder to Lattice” – the next steps can be about branching out, not just moving up.
What have we been working on?
We’re also developing the NSI Navigator, a prototype tool to help you identify your strengths, understand your story, and explore new possibilities - without pressure.
